A Chief Inspector Pointer Mystery At first it had seemed just a tragic accident, a conjuring trick gone horribly wrong when a real sword substituted for a prop results in the death of a woman. Moments later the amateur magician, the ladies husband, overwhelmed with grief committed suicide. But when certain aspects don’t seemed to add up, one of Scotland Yard’s finest, Chief Inspector Pointer, is sent to the scene of the tragedy, Beechcroft, to investigate. Was it truly an accident and suicide? Or was it something more sinister, a double murder? And if so, why? And more importantly, by whom? These are the questions Pointer must unravel as he investigates the . . . Tragedy at Beechcroft!

I really like the old golden age of British mysteries stories and appreciate finding them for Kindle. I like Chief Inspector Pointer very much and can understand why he was so popular when the mysteries first came out. To move forward to the present, however, I would like to know who proofs the books for Kindle usage. There are way too many grammatical and spelling errors in this book. In one chapter heading the main character's name is misspelled. That is not fair to the author nor to the reader. Obviously this became an irritation while I was trying to read this rather complicated and interesting plot. Ignore it if you can and enjoy the story.

OKish, but better out there
Would order again
Thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. So very similar to an Agatha Christie.
As I've written about other books by A E Fielding, he or she was a very good writer and I'm glad that these books have been republished ("resurrected!")
Too many names of the involved, and in typical English country manor epics, too much "he said, she said." Too much innocuous dialogue interrupts the story.
A good old fashioned English mystery. Enjoyable read typical of the period but not up to the writing of Christie, Marsh or Sayers. There were perhaps a few too many names to keep straight.
This the first Inspector Pointer book I have read. The story is an involving murder mystery, but it sometimes drags which slows the story down. The action picks up when Inspector Pointer enters the case, but I would have preferred he entered earlier. All in all it is a good read. I enjoyed it enough to buy another Inspector Pointer mystery, The Eames-Erskine Case, in which Pointer comes is involved from the beginning.
